China is no stranger to hosting swimming events. This year, it is hosting the sixth Swimming World Cup, which will last three days starting on October 18th and ending on November 2nd. Starting from Shanghai, the event will then travel to Incheon, South Korea, and finally arrive in Singapore.
Centered in three locations, the 2024 SWC saw an extravaganza of top swimmers participating. Bustling by the presence of some of the top athletes of the world, the event is no less than in popularity after the recent Paris Olympics. With the event coming to an end soon, let’s look at some of the top performances from the 3-day World Cup event.

Taking the top spot as the overall winner, French swimmer Leon Marchand yet again proved himself at the 2024 World Cup. Bagging four gold and one bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, Leon comes again victorious. Declared the overall winner of the event, claiming nine gold medals, the win emerged in both 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter races in all three-day events, respectively. The final stop in Singapore, however, saw him perform a world record-breaking victory in the men’s 200-meter short course medley, breaking Ryan Lochte’s record to claim a silver medal.
Besides Marchand, another record-breaking performance at the Swimming World Cup was done by Swiss swimmer Noe Ponti. Marking with 21.50 seconds, Ponti bagged the win in the men’s 50 butterfly event. With 2 gold medal wins in both 50 men and 100 men butterfly in all the three-day events, respectively, he also won the men’s 100 medley on day 2 in Incheon.
Having talked about Marchand and Ponti, another name that comes to mind is Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang. Maintaining an impressive streak in the men’s 50 breaststroke event, claiming the first spot, Qin claimed victory, breaking the Asian record in the men’s 100 breaststroke category in Singapore. Having talked about the men’s highlighting performances in detail, the female participants gave quite a competing record.
The female swimmers who delivered jaw-dropping performances at the Swimming World Cup
Like men, women can be tough competitors. A versatile swimmer representing America, Kate Douglass was crowned the overall winner of the 2024 World Cup. Finishing off the tour with the top win, Kate’s performance in the three-day event resulted in an impressive tally of 11 gold medals. in women’s 50 butterfly, 100 medley, breaststroke, and 200 medley, breaststroke categories, respectively.

While Kate gave an inspiring performance, Regan Smith took the second spot with nine golds and two silver medals. The final series saw Smith prove the world with a record-breaking performance in women’s 200 medley, topping Kaylee McKeown’s record. In terms of overall performance, Smith takes the top spot three times under the women’s 100 and 200 backstroke categories. Two wins in the 50 backstroke category and a single win in the 200 butterfly category also came.
A competitive win showcased by both the male and female swimmers has indeed made the 2024 Swimming World Cup tour a grand success.
