After a long wait, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul faced off in the most anticipated bout of 2024. Finally, the fight, which concentrated millions of viewers around the world, ended in a unanimous victory for the 27-year-old YouTuber against the 58-year-old former boxing champion. After the fight, Tyson referred to the possibility of definitively retiring from boxing, a sport he had stopped practicing professionally 20 years ago. But if you ask Joe Rogan, Tyson never should’ve returned in the first place.

Time and again, the UFC commentator has stated in his podcast that the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul was a bad idea. Seeing that Tyson is 58 years old and came off a medical injury, it is a miracle that nothing unfortunate happened in between the bout. Now, in a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster has revealed how concerned he was about the fight.

He said, “But the reality is, Mike is 58 years old, and I was worried. You know, I just… I love that guy, and he was a hero of mine when I was a kid. So, to see him, you know, 58 years old, fighting…” However, he also took time to shower some rare praise on Jake Paul, as the YouTuber-turned-boxer has been the subject of major trolling online for fighting against someone way over his age.

Joe Rogan began by revealing his Cinderella ending to the fight, with Mike Tyson knocking out Jake Paul despite his age. However, even if that did not take place, the UFC commentator couldn’t help but praise ‘The Problem Child’ for his boxing skills as well as being a marketing genius. He said on JRE #2233, “I don’t have anything against Jake Paul. I like Jake Paul. I think what he’s doing is genius. I think what he’s doing is, like, I mean, he’s making insane amounts of money, he’s having a great time, and he’s a legit boxer. He’s absolutely a legit boxer.”

Well, it looks like the bout, despite being as controversial as it was, did not leave a sour taste on Joe Rogan’s tongue. But it was surely an amazing fight week for fans as they got to witness the Netflix special fight and UFC 309. However, it also led the JRE host to reveal who his combat sports GOAT is, Jon Jones or Joe Rogan. So who is it? Let’s find out!

Joe Rogan reveals his GOAT

This November was truly the highlight month for fight fans, as they saw two of the biggest combat sports athletes—Jon Jones and Mike Tyson—enter their respective rings for high-profile bouts. With both being absolute legends of their field, it makes it nearly impossible to decide who the real GOAT of combat sports is. However, Joe Rogan has chosen his pick. So who is it? Well, it’s none other than the famous Mike Tyson, as he revealed in episode #2232 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’

While talking to Avengers actor Josh Brolin, the UFC commentator said, “I maintain that in the time where he (Mike Tyson) was champion, like the two or three years where he was at his best, he was the greatest fighter of all time.” Joe Rogan believes that the fear of fighting someone like Mike Tyson is what makes ‘Iron Mike’ the greatest combat athlete of all time. The boxer’s record and dominance spoke volumes about his abilities, and there is no doubt that he is one of the all-time greats.

But Jon Jones too has made a career out of knocking out greats. He proved it again at UFC 309 by sending Stipe Miocic into retirement. So the GOAT debate still remains a matter of subjectivity for many fans. But what do you think? Who do you believe is the GOAT of combat sports? Let us know in the comments.
