The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight showed the unfortunate but true reality of what age does to a boxer, even if it’s the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet.’ While many on the internet believe the fight was rigged and Tyson got paid the big bucks not to knock out ‘The Problem Child,’ others have come to terms with Tyson’s diminished fighting ability at 58.
One of those people seems to be IShowSpeed, a Twitch streamer and widely popular social media influencer, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr. Paul, of course, won the fight via a unanimous decision on November 15th, as Mike Tyson failed to continue his aggression past the first round. The very next day, the Twitch streamer sat down with former NFL player Shannon Sharpe, where he shared his thoughts on the fight.
“I watched it. I stayed up and watched it,” Speed began. “Man, I was just like… So, when it started, they [came] out. Mike Tyson, he got the look, I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ I [had] never seen Mike Tyson fight a day of my life. I’m 19.” On the other hand, Speed has seen Jake Paul fight many times against the likes of Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and even Tommy Fury.

So, his impression of the fight was much like many, who felt Tyson wasn’t doing well, but Speed also realized what age can do to a boxer. “I thought Mike Tyson was really doing bad, but age just shows,” Speed admitted on the Club Shay Shay podcast. “Like that’s what I realize. I was like, ‘Wow, age is really a thing.’ He just wasn’t there.”
Regardless of how Tyson performed, he walked away from the fight with a reported $20 million in the bank while Jake Paul reportedly made $40 million from the bout. It also became the fight with the most live viewers in the history of the sport, boasting 65 million concurrent viewers, per Netflix. Meanwhile, another world champion had similar views of Tyson’s performance.

Terence Crawford, a former two-division undisputed champion with a pristine record of 41-0, wasn’t impressed with Tyson’s performance one bit. Despite all the records the bout broke and the money it made, Crawford didn’t hold back his criticism, watching a legend of the sport lose to a YouTube boxer.
“I love Mike Tyson, but they giving him too much credit,” Crawford wrote on X after the fight ended. “He looked like trash, to train that long and only throw 97 punches the whole fight is crazy. I’m just glad he didn’t get hurt out there.” The fight saw Tyson land 18 punches compared to Paul’s 78 to the body.
72,300 fans in the arena booed the lack of action, and later, Crawford hopped on X to boast he could break Paul and Tyson’s record. He wrote, “I think I can do 90,000 at Memorial Stadium… ima go on and make history just to make some of y’all mad.”
