The Nebraska Huskers look unstoppable right now. They recently defeated sixth-ranked Wisconsin in what was predicted to be a close game. However, the Huskers quickly rubbished all these claims as they went on to win the game in a comfortable sweep, with the scoreline being 25-21, 25-22, and 25-17. Merritt Beason, who was playing her final regular season match, recorded 11 kills, while Rebekah Allick recorded 10.
In the end, these performances helped them win their 25th game in a row and 41st home game. It also marked the first time since 2012 that the team beat Wisconsin twice. Thus, it was a great day for the team. However, on November 27, journalist Lincoln Arneal broke some sad news to the volleyball community, sharing the tragic loss of former Husker Paige Hubl.
Lincoln wrote, “Tragic news as former Husker Paige Hubl passed away earlier this week. She played for Nebraska between 2009 and 2012 and was a co-captain her senior year. Hubl was a prep standout for Lincoln Southeast and later served as head coach for the Knights for four years.” Paige was well-liked both as a coach for LSE and as a player for the Nebraska Huskers. She became their co-captain during her senior year and was a defensive force in their lineup with an average of.59 digs per game.

Former teammate Michaela Hauser posted a tweet honoring Paige, explaining that this one hurts. The teammates were just celebrating their Hall of Fame induction just a month ago. “Oh Paige! You were truly one of a kind. A light in every room you entered. You will be greatly missed! Prayers to the Hubl family during this tough time!” It was a sad day for the volleyball community, with the fans expressing the same sentiments too.
Huskers and LSE fans give their condolences to Paige Hubl
The whole volleyball community was immensely heartbroken after hearing of Paige Hubl’s passing away. However, it seemed that the Huskers and the LSU community bore the brunt, as they had seen her perform for their team. “Our Husker hearts are broken over this news,” said one fan. As soon as Paige entered the Nebraska Huskers side in 2009 as a freshman, she became valuable to the team.
But Paige would receive a setback in her career when the player wouldn’t appear for the whole of the 2010 season. When her name appeared again on the team sheet in 2011, she showed the whole side what she was built of as she played in all of the games for the side, performing brilliantly. This led to her becoming co-captain for her senior season, as she was aptly rewarded for the previous one. Huskers fans still love her as they poured in with their condolences. “Rest in peace,” another fan wrote.

Another user sent their thoughts to her family, who would need it a lot in these trying times. “Just heartbreaking prayers to her family and friends.” Paige passed away at just 31. This is understandably a shocking loss for her family and friends, but solace can be found in the fact that she achieved so much in her short life. While her time as a Husker is obviously noted, Paige’s tenure at LSU was also pretty good.

She worked there for four years as a coach and left her mark there. By the time she left the school, Paige had the record for the most digs and the most aces in the history of the school. “Prayers for her family; she will be greatly missed,” said one fan, while another commenter highlighted the fact that Paige Hubl was a part of the Huskers family, who would miss her as much as her own family. “Just so sad! Sending so much love to her family and my Husker family! 🙏🏿” they wrote.
Paige Hubl will be greatly missed by the whole volleyball community and the Huskers fans. But her legacy as a player and coach will always remain intact in the record books.
