It’s been all downhill for the New York Giants this year, and they’re still looking for a way back up. Of course, this season’s performance is terrible for the team but I’m talking about their Quarterback struggles that seem like a house of cards — collapsing with every new setback. And with just a few hours remaining to their face-off against the Dallas Cowboys, Drew Lock seems to be a key for the giants’ rising struggles.

Although Lock signed for the Giants as the backup QB worth $5 million for a year, Brian Daboll’s management instead went with Tommy DeVito after Daniel Jones was released following his poor performance. Lock’s contract includes a $2 million sign-up bonus and $4.95 million guaranteed salary. Adding to that, he has few other incentives in his contract with the team and it seems the Giants are hoping to save some money — though there is no confirmation yet.

As per the incentive contract, he can earn $250,000 for hitting 40%, 50%, 60%, or 70%+ of snaps in this season. Additionally, if he finishes with a 92.5 passer rating, a 65% completion rate, or hits the combo of 88 passer rating + 15 touchdowns or 88 passer rating + 2,000 passing yards, he’ll earn another $250,000 for each of those milestones

On top of that, if Lock plays 55%-69% of snaps and the team makes the playoffs, he gets an extra $500,000. If he’s on the field for 70%+ of snaps and the team makes the playoffs, that jumps to $500,000 again. So, these incentives give him a real opportunity to cash in if he hits those targets!

How much can Drew Lock make this season?

Numbers are fancy but let’s not forget the season’s statistics. We’re in week 13 already and Lock is yet to play his first game of the season. And after Jones is out, DeVito’s place in the team for the next game seems uncertain following the disastrous loss of 30-7 to Tampa Bay and his right forearm injury.

That opens the gates for Lock to finally start in the Week 13 game against the Cowboys. However, with the Giants sitting at 2-9, that makes the last couple of incentives pretty out of reach, especially with the playoffs no longer in sight. Moreover, it also almost excludes his chances to score 15 touchdowns and 2,000 passing yards.

The only possible incentives he can get this season are through the 92.5 passer rating and 65% completion rate as he already has a 51.6 passing rate and 44.4% completion rate. Well, of course, it’s early to say but to earn extra incentive, Drew Lock needs to have some splendid games ahead starting with Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys.
