The four majors in 2024 were some of the best golf Bryson DeChambeau ever played. For the past three years, the 31-year-old was thought to have lost his form, and after joining LIV Golf, it was accepted that DeChambeau might not win a major again. But starting with the men’s first major, the 9-time PGA Tour winner stunned everyone. He was T6 at the Masters and nearly won the PGA Championship at Valhalla but settled with a solo second.
So, coming to Pinehurst No. 2 and winning after becoming the fan-favorite golfer again, it felt like every piece just fell into its rightful spot. On top of that, the 2024 US Open was all about honoring Payne Stewart, as it had been 25 years since he won the 1999 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 and emulated his iconic one-arm celebration. For DeChambeau, it was all about honoring the legend and giving back to his father.
During his ‘Break 50’ challenge video with Tom Brady, the 2-time US Open winner shared how the victory meant everything to him. He emotionally said, “Going back to the US Open, you couldn’t have written a fairy tale story better than that one for me. I mean, getting up and down, looking up, knowing my dad was watching—that was really cool. It gets me emotional every time.” From watching the 1999 US Open with his father and idolizing Stewart to winning at the same venue was a dream come true indeed, as he proudly flaunted his trophy around.

And then DeChambeau had his celebrating pose after the 72nd putt went in. All of it happened for the best, and DeChambeau hoped, “I just wish he would have seen it.” Regardless, the LIV Golf pro was happy that his father and Stewart were probably together and watched him get the US Open trophy. While it was a tribute to the 3-time major winner and his dad, the second US Open win meant for one more reason.
From zero to hero, Bryson DeChambeau was loved again
Joining the breakaway circuit proved to be a messy decision for Bryson DeChambeau. More so, because he was one of the golfers to sue the PGA Tour. And it all came down to him being criticized and bashed for this one lucrative decision. As said, playing in the 54-hole league implied that he may never be able to take the major pressure or play in one again.

He proved his critics wrong and made at least hundreds of new fans by doing exactly what he wasn’t expected to do. Talking to Tom Brady about his second major win, the 31-year-old reminisced that having the people behind him at Pinehurst No. 2 after a long time was amazing to witness as people recognized who Bryson DeChambeau actually was and not what the perception was before.
He added, “Coming over to the US Open, it was just a full culmination of a lot of hard work and a lot of persistence and trying to do the right thing, the next right thing, and it paid off.” Although he missed the cut at the Open later, DeChambeau’s performances in three majors became the reason for his rise in the golf world again. He has moved forward with that throughout the year and will probably keep at it even in 2025!
