When it comes to modern golf, people often refer to Bryson DeChambeau as one of the greatest golfers. After moving to LIV Golf, he was deprived of receiving OWGR points except, of course, for the majors. Despite that, he is the only LIV golfer in the top 10 of the standings. In the breakaway league, he had an average of 0.2 for scoring eagles, which ranks him third on the list. This year for DeChambeau was exceptional and inspirational. But who inspires him?
Bryson DeChambeau recently released the season finale of his YouTuber series Break 50. This time, he is in an attempt to make the record with none other than the GOAT, Tom Brady. As they continued their rendezvous, Brady asked The Scientist about the players that he had learned from. And well, despite being given the cold silent treatment by Tiger Woods after joining LIV Golf, and Phil Mickelson being a good friend and mentor, the 2024 US Open winner chose the former as a better guide.
“Phil is the most knowledgeable man when it comes to wedging and hitting around the greens,” said 2x US Open winner. After joining LIV Golf, Lefty still manages to have a putting average of 1.61 and ranks in the top 50, so there is no doubt that. However, despite being incredibly talented, it is Tiger Woods who has shaped his game plan.

“Tiger is the one that’s taught me a lot really yeah he’s taught me so much about putting shot shaping controlling distances and um just different little tidbits of information,” he added. Tiger Woods might not be ranked on the list because of his absence from the field, yet he still boasts a driving accuracy of 68.83%, not to forget a GIR of 49.49%. Additionally, he used to be one of the longest hitters on the Tour once upon a time and had an iron game that no one else could beat.
“He’s trying to gather from information and a lot of it’s in his hands so I took a lot of what he said about dude it’s all in your hands you’ve got to feel the golf club and sense the golf club being a technician somebody that loves to be perfectly on the plane and everything”, added DeChambeau.
While Mickelson might have come about victorious at The Match defeating his frenemy at the time, it is Tiger Woods who is always favored by the fans and considered to be a better play among the lot. 6 majors and 15 majors have a lot of difference after all!
Well, things have changed now. After going through several surgeries, and especially the life-changing neat fatal car accident in 2021, Tiger Woods’s game is not the same anymore. And as it turns out, Bryson DeChambeau might have surpassed it.

Phil Mickelson says Bryson DeChambeau has perfected Tiger Woods’s iron game
In a YouTube video with Grant Horvat, Phil Mickelson while talking about the importance of long iron hits, complimented Tiger Woods’s iron game. He said That’s why Tiger was so great at him because he had the speed to get that ball so high and come in vertical that right he could get ball stopped on some of these greens that others just couldn’t”.
However, he also stated that current top players like Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau have started using the same trick. Of course, learning it from the greatest. And while no one can beat the 82X PGA Tour winner, they have more energy than the 48 YO.

That is what makes their high spin a lot better than him. The exceptional swing speed is just the cherry on top. And well, that is working out well for both the players, as they are currently the GOATs of the game. What do you think about DeChambeau’s gameplay? Let us know in the comments section below!
