Being a youngster in the golf industry can be both terrifying and exciting. The pressure to perform, the scrutiny of the spotlight, and the weight of expectation can be overwhelming. But at the same time, the thrill of competition, the rush of adrenaline, and the sense of accomplishment can be exhilarating feeling. For Charlie Woods, the 14-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, this dichotomy is all too familiar.

Performing in front of a huge audience and on top of that having the legacy of his father constantly on his shoulders, Charlie has handled it all pretty well.

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, provided a challenging test for Charlie Woods, as he competed in the 2023 PNC Championship. The course, which measured 6,576 yards, was known for its demanding layout, with tight fairways and tricky greens. At 14 years old, Charlie had moved back one tee, taking on the course’s challenging holes. His dad, Tiger Woods, was proud of the progress Charlie had made, saying “He was an 11-year-old when he first came here (in 2020)… He’s now 14, and things are just different. He has more accountability and he has more understanding of how to play the game.” The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club’s challenging layout pushed Charlie to his limits, but he was up for the task, having practiced hard and ready to take on the best of the best.

Last but not least, the BallenIsles Country Club’s East Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, proved to be a formidable challenge for the junior golfers competing in the 2024 South Florida PGA Junior Cup. The course, which has hosted several notable tournaments, including the 1971 PGA Championship, tested the skills and determination of Charlie Woods and Eva Lye, who ultimately emerged victorious in their respective divisions. The East Course’s demanding layout and tricky greens pushed Woods to his limits, but he rose to the challenge, shooting scores of 73-68-73 to finish under par. “I feel like it was a compilation of a lot of hard work this summer,” Woods told the PGA of America. The course’s challenges were evident in Lye’s performance as well, as she overcame a second-round 77 to post a 1-under 71 and take the lead in her division.
