A baby boy cradled in his dad’s arms, the mother kissing on the baby’s head, and a pup sitting adorably with a beautiful lake and lake in the background—is how a novel’s epilogue describes a happy ending. But for Tony Stewart, and his drag racer wife Leah Pruett, this is their current reality… From the glow on Leah’s face, the laughs, and the love to the very sleepy baby Stewart and the farm animals on his blanket, describing everything as warm and fuzzy would be an understatement.
But, we’d say what Leah Pruett calls her ‘Wild Wild West‘ looks like a picture of serenity and we can’t help but wish the family all the health and happiness. For this was hardly a smooth journey. From Leah battling Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (a condition where the body’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland) that can affect pregnancy, leading to miscarriages, and birth defects, to her husband reaching just in time for the baby’s birth, it was indeed a wild ride…
During her pregnancy, Leah had indicated that Tony Stewart would be subbing in for her, and he did. However, Stewart was all the way in Pomona, California, competing in qualifying when he got the news that Pruett was going to deliver their baby boy. Stewart finished Q4 and flew to the hospital where Pruett delivered little Dominic James Stewart.

Talking about the incident, Pruett also penned a heartfelt note on Instagram, where she praised Stewart’s dedication to make it. Stewart did cut the cord as well to welcome his son into the world. the post from November 19 read, “Was a wild sequence of events; with my water breaking Saturday morning in Havasu, and Tony being in Pomona, CA and still having 2 rounds of qualifying that day…”
“My hope was to have our baby in a time frame that Tony could be there for, (not before or after), AND for the Top Fuel team to get both runs in. Ultimately it’s was God’s will of how it all went down, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
“Tony was able to fly in after Q4, as my labor really ramped up, supporting me the entire night. There had been a lot of big talk on his end for months how he wasn’t going to be in the room, but let me tell you, he was there for every moment and helping me through it all. After 9 hours of building labor and 1.5 hours of pushing, I got to hold our perfect baby boy, and Tony did in fact, cut the chord. ✂️ (I know some people had bets on that lol). Smoke Daddy was able to fly back in time for first round of Eliminations, and we had a solid semi final finish to the race season. However, the dad jokes were rolling from Tony Stewart even before Dominic was delivered.”
As for Tony, his heart has also been full. “The short three hours that I go to spend with Dominic overnight, you couldn’t put a price tag on it. I would do it all over again for that little boy, my wife, and our family. I didn’t win a championship. I didn’t win a race today, but I feel like I put today in the category of wins and championships,” the former Cup Series racer said after hid first child’s birth.
