Jordan Chiles is amidst her medal controversy, but that hasn’t let her forget that there’s a lot that the future holds for her. The gymnast will be setting off to UCLA for the NCAA 2024-25 season in a matter of weeks, which her mother, Gina, announced recently. However, the announcement had more to it than just her daughter and her new leotard collection, as she was flamed by the negative comments owing to the scam allegations.

Gina Chiles addressed the scam allegations she has been facing recently from the community and wasn’t shy to point out the negativity that was held up against her past acts. However, the announcement also reached fans again, and this time, most of them didn’t have a different reaction than before.

Jordan Chiles’ mother is not so happy with the internet

Social media can surely be a place to easily convey whatever a person wants, but it also supports criticism from all around the world without any bars. Amidst Jordan Chiles’ plan to head to UCLA, her mother, Gina, conveyed that she wanted to help her daughter and her team out with the listings of her new leotard collection, as seen on the Facebook group Jordan Chiles Leotard Collection. 

Apart from the sales part, she also stressed that the gymnast herself wanted her help to get the leotards delivered to the customer so she could defy these scam allegations. “I’ve done this before for her this way & EVERYONE received their Leo. I don’t have interest nor would I scam,” Gina stated in an aggressive way, as she wasn’t just letting anyone stack allegations against her. Furthermore, Chiles’ mother stated that she noticed many comments mentioning the high prices of the signature leotards.

Gina confirmed that the prices are set by the gymnast’s team, and those won’t drop due to many reasons. However, customers who are looking forward to a price range a bit lower than the regular ones could take their interest in the unsigned leotards, as those will be a lot cheaper than the signed ones. Gina also gave another hit to the community with her stern message, stating, “Unfollow this group if you use everything I do as an opportunity to hate. Please & Thank you.”

As seen on the Facebook post, while she was trying to support her daughter to sell her leotards, the hate comments have really angered her. Criticism is fine, but it becomes direct hate; highlighting a certain past deed that a person is already healing from is something that they won’t welcome with open arms. However, as it’s the internet, the moment a screenshot of this message was shared on Reddit’s r/gymnastics subreddit, it generated tons of reactions, and most of them were not in favor of Gina.

Fans did the trolling all over again

Dodging trolls on the internet is no easy feat, and Jordan Chiles’ mother, Gina, was caught up with them once again. One user wrote, “‘nor would I scam’ said the woman that went to prison for embezzling over a million dollars from her clients.” “Re: number 4 – once you get done for embezzling 1.2 million dollars, it probably isn’t surprising that some people don’t look at you the same way afterwards,” another fan commented their opinion on this statement.

Back in 2021, Gina Chiles pleaded guilty to court after embezzling $1.2 million from her clients and business partners in Portland. However, a federal judge allowed her to postpone her jail time until the end of August, so she could watch her daughter compete in Tokyo for the Olympic Games. This decision also caught a lot of controversy, and one of her victims, Karla Pearlstein, who lost $945,000, was stern about the unfair call.

Most of the fans also had no problem with the gymnast, but they demanded her mother’s services to be better, as one stated, “This is very cringe coming from a woman who went to prison for embezzling a million dollars. Specifically talking about the ‘I would never scam’ part. I of course support Jordan, and I just think her mom’s delivery could be a little better.” One user was also surprised by Chiles’ team decision, stating, “The only thing that surprises me here is that Jordan’s team is allowing a convicted criminal scammer run her Leo sales. That’s just bad business. At least have Gena pretend it’s not her.”

Gina served her sentence that started August 26, 2021, in a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas. However, her stay wasn’t long, as she was released under a federal program four months early from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons on April 18, 2022. While there was no official statement regarding the release, many sources predicted that she earned her time off from custody owing to her good behavior behind bars.

Such sketchy cases usually attract much attention from the community. And where there are people, there’s always a clash of opinions. Surely the gymnast’s mother committed a few acts that weren’t legal, but humans make mistakes, and she’s also a human. However, as she strives to redeem herself, the public has the choice to embrace her or not.
