Maybe Dave Portnoy is getting too ahead of himself. The Wolverines aren’t the same team y’all saw back during the 2023 era. With Jim Harbaugh out of the picture and Sherrone Moore taking over, nothing has gone their way since. Standing on a 6-5 run, it feels like we are watching a shell of its former self perform on the gridiron. Is Sherrone Moore to be blamed for the downfall? Not really. Michigan just doesn’t have the same caliber anymore. No matter what you say about the cheating drama, Harbaugh still had his way of making the team great. So what’s next for Sherrone Moore and Co? Well, the 2025 season course. They ain’t making the playoffs this year.

Right? RIGHT? “Can 5-loss Michigan run the table?” Barstoolcfb mentioned in the caption of their latest post. Do you know what Dave Portnoy is doing other than reviewing pizzas? He is putting Michigan on his playoff list. “It’s funny. I really do think you should only be judged on your last game,” Portnoy mentioned. Some of that “za za” is making Portnoy go bonkers, folks. See, Wolverines fans love Dave because he had a massive role in the entire Bryce Underwood secure but even they would agree that this is an outrageous take.

Yes, Sherrone Moore indeed had one of his best games this season against Northwestern, but that does not mean they deserve a playoff spot. Winning 50-7 against a team like that and then losing 21-7 to Illinois out of all the other teams ain’t a good look.

Let’s be real here; Michigan never had a chance of securing a massive season this year. The first problem was the fact that their QB room was horrendous. Who do they have? Davis Warren and Alex Orji right? Warren has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns (7 Ints vs 6 TDs), and Orji is a one-hit wonder who literally only played well as a 33rd-ranked Minnesota team and still barely won at 27-24.

What is important is the fact that they have managed to secure a Bowl game ticket, and the overall Michigan recruitment has been on fire. Underwood is in the club, and early on, Wolverines also flipped Shamari Earls from Georgia. These are massive wins and fans should be more than happy about it. However, there is another way Michigan can make its fans proud: if they win against OSU.

A shot at stopping the Buckeyes?

Maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves. Who knows? Ryan Day and his million-dollar roster are on the 2nd spot in the CFP and have been writing their destiny. Buckeyes have had quite a schedule while Josh Pate pointed out, and still have managed to secure a 10-win run with only one loss to the Ducks.

So when Wolverines hit the turf against these guys, do they stand a chance? From a pure skill perspective, the clear answer is no. Wolverines are not even nearly well equipped to deal with Day’s roster and Chip Kelly‘s play calling.

This added to the QB issues, and the fact that Day has one of the best QBs this season on his team, Sherrone Moore, stands no chance. But, in some alternate reality, what if Michigan does win? Well, it won’t hinder the Buckeyes from its playoff run, but it will definitely put Day in a tough spot. Massive season, then losing to a 5-loss team? Pulling a Bama on this one, huh?
