“I sucked tonight… We had way too many turnovers… I just sucked tonight… I was awful, so that’s on me” Following the Warriors’ 102-99 loss against the LA Clippers, Draymond Green was willing to do his part in taking responsibility. Given that the Warriors had recorded a 10-2 win stat before the game, a major improvement from the previous season, of course, they needed to account for any loss. In the heavy turnover-filled game, where 7 of the 11 Warriors players had at least 1 turnover, Dray had 6…
However, the floor general’s mother was later there to tell him that the turnovers weren’t the only issue! On an episode of The Draymond Green Show, he described to co-host Baron Davis about having the corner 3, but focusing more on the floor, as the play was developing. Green saw Steph being across the court, wide-open at one point. The player realizes now that if he had gained possession of the ball and passed it to the wide-open Curry then, things would have been different for him and his squad.
However, Green made a mistake in not utilizing the opportunity. In the end, he also had to receive an earful from his mum, Mary Babers, for whom the potential play was also obvious.

“My mom’s like ‘You should have taken the corner three’ and you know what, I told my mom. I said, ‘Mama the opportunity will come back’, but that’s the first time the opportunity has happened this year. You have to get the ball to Steph Curry, at that moment,” said Green.
“That’s his moment. Like, that is his moment, that is where this is created (makes the ‘Night-Night’ gesture), it’s the best celebration in sports. And he only can do this with those types of moments. Right there. But, that is a Steph Curry moment. So, yeah, Ma (was) like…… If I see that he is not about to be open I’m going to take that shot, for sure. But if I see him about to be remotely close to open, that’s his moment. You get him the ball,” admitted Draymond Green on his YouTube show.
So, despite playing in the NBA for 12+ years and winning 4 NBA championship titles, even someone like Draymond Green might occasionally confuse himself about the best play to utilize. Therefore, just like how we come up with a perfect comeback remark hours after a fight actually ended, the Warriors veteran realized his fault after the game’s conclusion!
Just like any loving mother out there, Mary Babers is there to call out her son’s faults. She stands as a testament to the fact that it doesn’t matter how successful you’ve been in your field. Your parents will still be there to teach you something new or make you realize your mistake. But Mary isn’t only there for the lows. She doesn’t hesitate to celebrate the big moments as they arrive!
Mary Babers reacts to Draymond Green’s impressive pass to Buddy Hield with 1-word: “Binoculars”
The matchup between the OKC Thunder and the Golden State Warriors, held last week, saw the latter winning their 8th game of the season. While Stephen Curry and Jonathan Kuminga scored 36 and 20 points respectively, Draymond Green made a noteworthy contribution. Despite scoring only 8 points, he had 11 assists that spoke in his favor. This caught the attention of Mama Green, too.

As 6:19 minutes remained in the 3rd quarter, the Warriors led by 85-68. Draymond Green had possession of the ball and reached the other side of the court. Instead of dashing to the rim, however, the power forward quickly passed the ball, from under, to Buddy Hield.
Buddy had already begun running to the rim, and grabbed the ball quickly to make a dunk, extending the Warriors’ lead. Mary Babers highlighted the moment on her Instagram story and simply wrote “Binoculars”, accompanied by a heart-eyes emoji. Green responded in kind by reposting the story and writing “Insert the emoji”. Such moments certainly leave the hearts of fans heart-warmed too!

As Draymond Green highlighted, ‘The opportunity will come back.’ With a 10-3 record, GSW can afford to make a mistake. However, at the end of those mistakes should be a lesson that doesn’t allow it to happen again. From the looks of it, Green has learned his lesson.
