Under centre and under pressure. To say Carson Beck has had a rough senior season would be an understatement. Voices of reason as well as disdain have convened upon Carson throughout this run. While he is seemingly past the worst of it, there is still a bad taste.
After a stretch of 4 games where he threw 9 picks, it was pandemonium in Athens. It was like the walls were closing in on Carson. A substantial faction of Georgia fans even asked to take him out of the firing line. 2 games on, he has mitigated his turnover troubles. However, the demons of the recent past still haunt his future prospects. One Georgia fan and insider, with his finger on the general pulse around Carson, shared his feelings about their quarterback.
Matt DeBary of the Dawg Post took to their YouTube channel to voice his concerns. He seems to think the previous woes will resurface. “His game is improving. But it still has looked bad at times this year. If you’re a Georgia fan, it’s hard to be like ‘Carson Beck’s good to go now. He’s turned a new leaf. He’s turned a new page…and that’s the Carson Beck that we’re gonna see moving forward’. I’m not sure we’re gonna see that”, DeBary bluntly put forth.

The worries are multifaceted. As successful as the Georgia program has been over recent seasons, there is one caveat. Carson Beck has never been the starter during a playoff run. After he took over the reins in 2023, the Bulldogs missed the then 4-team CFP after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
Carson Beck needs to get the proverbial monkey off his back. With Georgia having secured a spot in this season’s conference championship, an opportunity beckons. Carson will have to prove to Bulldogs Nation that he can get it done in the biggest spots. The concerns within the fanbase aren’t just about his turnover troubles. They exist on a deeper plain and are almost unsalvageable at this juncture.

Matt DeBary laments the supporting cast while reiterating his stance on the QB
Even when they were winning back-to-back national titles, Georgia never had a superstar at QB. The Bulldogs under Kirby Smart have always been a sum of their parts rather than a one-man freight train. The likes of Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers were a revelation. Since their exit to the NFL, Georgia haven’t quite found adequate replacements.
Matt DeBary echoed these sentiments, saying, “He’s a guy that probably needs a go-to receiver. No one’s really emerged”. DeBary, however, did not absolve Carson Beck of any blame. “At the end of the day, he doesn’t have elite arm strength or accuracy. But it’s above average. It’s good to really good at the college level. It’s the decision-making that’s really put him in a bind. [Also] not being on the same page as his receivers…that’s inexcusable”, he said.
