Boxing games are rare. It has been 13 years since EA Sports released the last edition of the Fight Night series and there has been a market gap since then. That was until Steel City Interactive decided to fill that gap and released their game Undisputed last month. Fans were excited. However, that excitement soon turned into disappointment as the gameplay was marred with uncountable issues.
Fans regularly complained of gameplay feeling slow and unresponsive, the PS5 version having mediocre visuals, repetitive storylines, and a huge roster gap with the absence of fighters like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield really affected the experience of the game. However, there is another wave of excitement among fans as rumor mills are churning of EA Sports developing a New Fight Night game.

EA Sports’ last game in the series released in 2011 and according to the reports, the upcoming game might be a reboot rather than a direct sequel. While the gaming company itself has not confirmed the title, several boxers have hinted at the return of the game.
Earlier this year, Golden Boy Promotions honcho, Oscar De La Hoya posted a picture of EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 on his ‘X’ profile. He stated, “Wow time flies. Best selling boxing game ever! Over 6 million copies sold. Huge announcement soon regarding game sector.” A few months later, former WBA featherweight champion Raymond Ford posted a story on Instagram featuring a tweet talking about the return of the game.
These stories and rumors have made the fans hopeful and excited for the return of their favorite boxing game as they bombarded the comment section, with some even taking the opportunity to take a dig at Undisputed.
Fans request a bigger roster from EA Sports
A user wrote, “Need every fighter in the game undisputed was horrible,” stating how thin the boxing roster was on Undisputed. Even though the game had 70 fighters, several iconic boxing figures were missing from the game, making it a rather unpleasant experience for many boxing fans. Echoing similar sentiments, another fan declared, “Bouta put undisputed out of business.”
Another user wrote, “Thank you for making this happen @PlayUndisputed,” implying that the disappointment over Undisputed has allowed EA Sports to return. One of the main reasons for EA to stop production of Fight Night was because of the decline in boxing popularity. However, even though the experience has been underwhelming, Undisputed proved that boxing games are still popular, probably playing a role in making EA rethink its stance.

A fan of the game wrote, “I can finally get blisters on my thumbs again,” implying how he will play the game constantly on his Playstation and Xbox once it is released.
Another user demanded a bigger roster and wrote, “We need errol spence tank loma bam manny floyd bivol,” stating his choices. However, things won’t be that simple. As boxing has multiple sanctioning bodies and promotions, securing the rights of fighters gets tricky. That is why, even though Fight Night Champion featured 50 real-life boxers on its roster, legends like Floyd Mayweather were missing. We will have to wait and see how EA Sports will tackle this problem.
Another user wrote, “I’ll believe it when I see it…can’t afford to let fake news hurt me before the Holidays. 😆,” keeping his hopes at a minimum, which is understandable. EA Sports stopped the production of the game after they got the UFC licensing and they shifted all of their resources to that basket. So, unless a new boxing game promises a hefty profit, the game might not happen.

Well, as things are progressing, we will get a confirmation sooner rather than later. The only thing to ask will be how EA will tackle all the problems that they faced in the past.
