Playing on the PGA Tour together can either break bonds or make them much stronger, especially between a rising star and an existing pro. When it comes to Tom Kim, it has pretty much done both. The path to his becoming successful is very closely connected with the help of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. The bond of brotherhood could be because of many coincidences that aligned; from having the same birthdays to being neighbors, many factors counted into it.

Tom Kim’s behavior was highlighted in front of not just the fans but other pros too at the Presidents Cup this year. Why are we talking about it months later? During one of the promo rounds of the TGL, Billy Horschel was asked rapid-fire questions. When asked who is the worst trash talker on the TGL, he said Tom Kim. And well, he had his reasons.

Earlier this year, the brotherly bond of Scheffler and Kim was tested, and well, it was because of Tom Kim. During the opening round of the Presidents Cup in September, Scottie Scheffler carded a birdie on the seventh hole and had an outburst of emotions, which was unlike him, when he was paired with Russell Henley against Tom Kim and Sungjae Im. He enthusiastically yelled, “What was that?” But that was not all. On the eighth hole, Kim and his partner walked 60 yards away to the 9th tee box, even before the Americans could finish putting. This was considered disrespectful, by fans and commentators alike.

Many people assumed that this incident would negatively impact their friendship. But the pros revealed that there was nothing to worry about, and their entire act was just part of the game.

Scottie Scheffler addressed the speculation surrounding a lighthearted moment during the Thursday round in a post-round interview. “It’s all in good fun,” Scheffler remarked, reiterating, “That’s all I’ve got to say. It’s good fun.”The comments suggest no animosity between Scheffler and South Korean golfer Tom Kim, emphasizing a competitive yet amicable atmosphere on the course.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tom Kim's trash-talking just good fun, or does it cross the line of sportsmanship?

Have an interesting take?

And well, that was not all. Even Tom Kim explained the reason behind his outrage. He too was in a good and fun mood, but he desperately wanted to beat Scottie Scheffler. “I want to beat him so bad,” said Kim after losing out 3&2 on the opening day of the Presidents Cup, which Team USA dominated in a 5-0 clean sweep.

Additionally, he also added that it was a rather friendly moment because this is nothing new between the neighbors. Agreeing to Scottie Scheffler’s remarks, he said, “Just he was being himself. That’s how we play back at home, and I knew it was going to happen.” Well, as it turns out, everything was sorted by the end, and the duo continued being friends.
