The Broncos may have taken their last-second defeat to the Chiefs pretty seriously. Because after dominating the Falcons a week later 38-6, they have swept apart the miserable Raiders in Las Vegas 29-19. But all of those wouldn’t have been possible without their rookie QB, Bo Nix, who has been simply sensational, to say the least.
Without turning over any passes yet again on Sunday, Nix finished with 25-of-42 passes for 273 yards. His two TDs and one that came late into the fourth quarter helped the Broncos maintain their 10-point lead. And they didn’t relinquish their dominance after that, as Sean Payton had nothing but some high praise for his QB. But it came on the back of a possible dig on Russell Wilson’s time in Denver, Payton expressed, “Our team a year ago doesn’t win this game, but this team did. And you built some grit, and we won the turnover battle again. You know we were the better team today.” Even after not having to deal with Russ no more, it seems Payton just can’t forget his time in Denver.
Well, we can’t really blame Payton, as Wilson’s tenure in Denver would still send chills down the spines of anyone in Mile High City. He was simply awful. To break it down for you, Wilson was sacked a whopping 100 times within just 30 games. And the nine-time Pro Bowler threw 19 interceptions over the two years he spent in Denver. Meanwhile, Nix has only thrown 6 interceptions till now compared to the 16 passing TDs he has under his name.

Even Denver fans agreed with Payton’s subtle dig at Wilson as they echoed in his thoughts, “Russell would have turned the football over twice if he was the quarterback today. ✔️” And there was who took a dig at Wilson’s sack record in Denver, “He would’ve gotten sacked on his own accord a bunch of times too.” Although Wilson and the Broncos have since moved on after the latter got hit by a $85M dead cap hit for the next two years. Payton has found his gem in former Oregon Ducks QB Bo Nix, who has now joined the elite category of NFL GOAT Tom Brady.

Selected 12th overall in this year’s NFL draft, Payton knew he had his man to replace Russell Wilson on the offense. But they couldn’t have predicted the trajectory Bo Nix was going to give them. As a rookie, Nix was still fresh out of college. However, on given the opportunity to start from day 1, it seemed like Nix was destined for Payton’s team. After 12 weeks of NFL action, Nix has led the Broncos to seven wins while breaking all sorts of records.
He leads the franchise in passing yards (2,548), pass completions (259), and passing TDs (16) ever recorded by a rookie. And over the past three games, Nix hasn’t thrown a single interception while adding 8 TDs by his name. For achieving this feat, Nix now joins legendary Bronco Peyton Manning, who held this stat line until last week. And as per current NFL players, only Cowboys QB Dak Prescott did it in his rookie year.
Well, to top it all off. Nix now joins elite QBs like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes. But for what reason, you could be wondering, a rookie is sharing the same space with future Hall of Famers? The Broncos QB has now reached 20 TDs for 2 or fewer turnovers within a minimum stretch of 10 games. Such records will only increase the chances of Nix claiming the Offensive Rookie of the Year title. Now the Mile High City can finally leave behind the horrors that Russell Wilson had given them for the last two years.
