Formula-1 lands in Las Vegas for the last American round of the season. The street circuit, a 6.1-kilometer track that winds its way through the iconic Las Vegas Strip with its casinos and hotels. This is the second year in a row for F1 is Las Vegas after a disappointing debut between sessions were canceled due to track damage and half-empty grandstands. However, this year, they are making up for it by welcoming guests bringing major hype such as Sylvester Stallone and Steve Aoki. Considering the event was in the fight capital of the world, the promoters saw it fitting to attract more eyes by bringing back Bruce Buffer to introduce the F1 racers.

The UFC announcer made his return to the F1 track after joining his brother Michael Buffer the last time in the annual Las Vegas Grand Prix. Known for his effusive style of attracting attention while introducing fighters in the Octagon, Buffer did the same at the Las Vegas Grand Prix by giving it his all. But it seems like the importance of the event was overshadowing the surprise appearance of the UFC legend. After all, it is the penultimate round of the year and Max Verstappen’s first opportunity to win his fourth world championship title.

With three races remaining, including Las Vegas, the Dutchman leads the drivers’ championship with 393 points, followed by Britain’s Lando Norris with 331 points. It is an almost insurmountable difference: Verstappen only needs to cross the finish line in first place or score more points than Norris in Las Vegas to lift his fourth crown, a milestone that would put him on a par with legends such as Alain Prost or Sebastian Vettel.

With such high states, there’s no doubt that fans want the race and just the race. Apart from the thrilling high-speed action, there is rarely anything that piques their interest. It seems like fans aren’t big fans of this method of building up the hype. As a result, they were quick to let their thoughts known in the comments. Taking to the comments, many fans called the moment cringe. They claimed that they were getting secondhand embarrassment just by watching the announcement, as they wrote comments such as, “INCREDIBLY (cringe),” “What a cringefest,” and “Why are they making F1 so cringe?” 

More fans asked the F1 to stop bringing guests for the announcements, “Stop this cringe; it doesn’t suit F1 at all.” Meanwhile, another set of fans claimed that this was an issue that only took place whenever the United States hosted an F1 event. “America needs to stop this.” “Everytym the US” and “As an American F1 fan, we need to stop this.” Some fans felt more embarrassed for Checo Perez, who had an awkward moment with Buffer the last time when he was waiting for the presenter to give him the microphone, thinking it was an interview; however, Buffer just stared at him and then turned his gaze to his cards.

As a result, he simply walked off while Buffer continued the show. So taking to the comments, some fans wrote, “Checo: not again 😩” and “Checo having PTSD” Well, it looks like fans aren’t big fans of Buffer making the announcements, even though the UFC announcer seems to be having the time of his life.
